Here’s a different take from our Registrar says:

“We code it according to the nature of the specific self-designed major (e.g. if one student pursues a self-designed major in biopsychology, we classify it with the biopsychology CIP; if another student pursues a self-designed major in visual anthropology, we code it with the CIP number for Anthropology Other).”

Subject: [cds] Self-designed Major CIP Codes

We’ve added a self-designed undergraduate major.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what CIP code I should classify it in?  I’m thinking Liberal Arts either:

24.0101 Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies.   A program that is a structured combination of the arts, biological and physical sciences, social sciences, and humanities, emphasizing breadth of study. Includes instruction in independently designed, individualized, or regular programs

Or

24.0102 General Studies  An undifferentiated program that includes instruction in the general arts, general science, or unstructured studies.

Thanks,
